Our Mission

We believe good food should never go to waste. NTRLY was built to help families save money, eat better, and do better for the planet.

Reduce Waste

A third of household food is thrown away. We build the boring infrastructure — knowing what you own and when it turns — that makes that number fall.

Save Money

Wasted food is money already spent. Cutting it is worth more to most households than any coupon, and it gets easier over time instead of harder.

Eat Better

Planning around what's fresh beats planning around what's convenient. Better meals are usually a side effect of better organisation.

Live Sustainably

Food in landfill produces methane. The most effective climate action available in a kitchen is simply eating the food that's already there.

A family unpacking groceries together in a bright kitchen

It started with a bag of spinach

In 2023 our co-founder Amara cleaned out her fridge and found four bags of spinach in various states of decay. She had bought each one intending to eat better. Every single one went in the bin.

The obvious conclusion was that she needed more discipline. The more useful conclusion — the one that turned into a company — was that no amount of discipline helps when the food is invisible. You cannot manage what you cannot see, and a fridge is an opaque box with a door that stays shut.

So we built the thing that was missing: a kitchen you can actually look at. What you own, what's about to turn, and what to cook tonight to use it. Everything else NTRLY does — the meal planner, the shopping list, the savings analytics — grew out of that one idea.

Three years on, households using NTRLY report throwing away meaningfully less than they did before, and the most common piece of feedback we get is not about the environment or the money. It's that dinner got easier.

What we believe

Four things we won't trade away

Principles are cheap to write down. These are the ones we've actually turned features down over.

Your kitchen is yours

We don't sell data, we don't run advertising SDKs, and we don't build a profile of you for anyone else. The business model is subscriptions, which keeps our incentives pointed at you.

Honest numbers only

Every figure in the app comes from something you actually did — an item marked used, a receipt logged. We'd rather show a small real number than an impressive invented one.

Works on a bad day

Software that only works when you're organised is useless, because the people who need it most are the ones who aren't. NTRLY has to survive the week where nobody plans anything.

Never guilt, always next steps

Waste tracking can easily become a scolding. We show what happened and what to cook tonight, and leave the moralising to someone else.

The team

A small team that cooks a lot

Sixteen people across six time zones. These six are the ones you're most likely to hear from.
